While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers—and brothers—Mario and Luigi are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi.
While I appreciated the fun and nostalgic elements of the film, such as the action-packed platforming scenes and iconic Mario tunes, I found the narrative decision to split up Mario and Luigi to be unnecessary and the inclusion of 80s rock music to be jarring. However, the film successfully captured the essence of the Mario franchise with its beautifully animated visuals, self-aware humor, and simplistic character interactions.
